DECAMERON ITALIAN -Italy Happy birthday! - Chiara Ferrante



The National Film Archive in collaboration with the Rome Film Festival has brought to the screen ten films of the Auditorium dedicated to our country. Five days to tell the identity view of Italian cinema: the ratio of the Italians with the church, family, history, their character and the fictional division between Po and southerners.
The retrospective devoted to 150 anniversary of the D ' Italy has opened Oct. 31 with two films that tell and reveal the character of the Italians: ITALIAN Italioti and this is the section that opens the retrospective contains two masterpieces of Italian cinema: The Monsters of Dino Risi and The Great War of Mario Monicelli. In the first film in 20 short sketches Dino Risi form a mosaic of Italy cynical and ironic that in the mid 60s out of the economic miracle and is faced with the industrialization and especially the change of the reference values. The film gives an overview of the vices of a country in rapid transformation, in which the Italian is a monster represented in its civil and social difficulties, which accentuate these problems there are sinister and deformed characters represented in the film as caricatures, interpreted a formidable pair of actors: Ugo Tognazzi and Vittorio Gassman. Another masterpiece is The Great War with a fresco depicting choral, and dramatic irony of Italian life in the trenches during the First World War. Through a language of neo-realist and romantic at the same time Monicelli combines traditional Italian comedy scenes with remarkable attention to historical details.
